What is DSL?
DSL is a Combination of technologies that provides digital data transmission over the wires of a local telephone network.

How Fast DSL?
The download speed of standard residential DSL can be anywhere from 256 kilobits per second (kbit/s) up to 60,000 kilobits or 6M. Usually the upload speed is slower.

How Does DSL Work?
DSL works by dividing up the frequencies traveling along a single phone line into two bands. Your ISP uses the higher frequency band for data transmission and your phone carrier uses the lower frequencies for voice transmission.

Do I Need Phone Service To Get DSL
This is referred to as a "Dry Loop" or "Naked DSL" and has recently become possible in some parts of the US. It makes it possible to install DSL on a phone line with no Dial Tone.

What Does D-S-L Stand For?
Digital Subscribers Line

What is a DSL filter?
A DSL filter is a device that is installed in the phone line to filter out the higher frequencies from the phone line, so the same line can also be used for voice communications. This allows the same line to be used by your phone and your DSL modem without interference from each other.
